The Arkansas Ambulance Association extends our heartfelt thanks to all Arkansas EMS providers and crews supporting hurricane response efforts in Florida.

With 23 units from Arkansas, 16 from Louisiana, 5 from Texas, 5 from Alabama, and 1 unaffiliated, a combined 49 units answered the call to help communities in need, with many still deployed this week.

Your willingness to leave home, work long hours, and care for others reflects the dedication and compassion of Arkansas’ EMS professionals. We also thank the families, coworkers, and agencies back home whose support makes these deployments possible.

Please keep these crews in your prayers as they work long hours serving others. Pray for their safety, strength, and safe return home.

We are proud of you and grateful for your service. Stay safe, take care of one another, and know that your Arkansas EMS family is cheering you on. We look forward to welcoming you home!

Today, we cut the ribbon and celebrate this incredible accomplishment for the Russellville Fire Dept. and Our Blood Institute!

Our Blood Institute and the Russellville Fire Department are launching Arkansas’ first-of-its-kind prehospital blood program, putting blood aboard select emergency vehicles and allowing trained first responders to begin blood transfusions before critically injured patients reach the hospital.

The blood carried by Russellville Fire Department is provided by Our Blood Institute and made possible by volunteer blood donors. When an emergency happens, the blood a patient needs must already be donated, tested and ready for use.

HE DID IT, JACOB BRIMER!!

Please join us in congratulating our own Jacob Brimer on completing an incredible journey from the Louisiana/Arkansas state line all the way to the Arkansas/Missouri state line in support of Camp Sunshine, a summer camp that provides unforgettable experiences for children who have suffered burn injuries.

Over the course of just 9 days, Jacob walked approximately 394 MILES with one goal in mind: raising money and awareness for a cause that makes a lasting difference in the lives of burn survivors. Along the way, he has raised an incredible $8,000+ for Camp Sunshine!

That kind of determination deserves recognition! But this journey was about so much more than one person putting one foot in front of the other. It was about a community coming together for something bigger than themselves.

It takes a special kind of heart to take on a challenge like this, but it takes an entire community to make it even more meaningful. Jacob, we are incredibly proud of your determination, your compassion, and your commitment to helping these amazing children. You set out to make a difference, and you have inspired so many along the way!

But even though Jacob's walk has come to an end, the mission doesn't have to stop here! There is still an opportunity to support Camp Sunshine and help provide these children with a place to heal, grow, build friendships, and simply enjoy being kids.

Supporting Mental Health in EMS Clinicians: A NAEMSP Position Statement and Resource Document

Emergency medical services (EMS) clinicians operate in environments characterized by repeated trauma exposure, operational unpredictability, shift work, moral distress, and cumulative occupational stress. A substantial body of evidence demonstrates elevated rates of post-traumatic stress symptoms, depression, anxiety, substance use, sleep disturbance, burnout, and suicide among EMS clinicians and other public safety professionals compared to the general public. The implications extend beyond individual well-being, affecting workforce sustainability, clinical performance, and high quality patient care. Mental health in EMS is therefore not solely an individual concern, but a systems issue. Therefore, the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP) recommends that:

• Organizational leadership should recognize EMS clinician mental health as foundational to workforce sustainability and safe patient care.

• EMS clinician mental health awareness, management, and treatment options should be a core part of EMS education.

• EMS systems should take a multi-faceted approach to mental health, with an emphasis on ensuring access to confidential and culturally competent resources for EMS clinicians and other public safety professionals including telecommunicators, law enforcement officers and firefighters.

• EMS systems should engage in quality improvement to identify and improve practices affecting EMS clinician mental health.

• EMS systems should achieve meaningful and sustainable improvements in EMS clinician mental health through legislative advocacy and building strong partnerships with local, regional and national agencies including public health and research institutions.
